ActionDignity Celebrated Black History Month with Community Reflections on Resilience and Advocacy
ActionDignity was honored to celebrate Black History Month alongside community members in a powerful evening of reflection, learning, and dialogue. Together, we explored the history, resilience, and invaluable contributions of Black communities, as well as the ongoing fight against systemic racism and discrimination.
A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Karon Hayes, retired Principal with the Calgary Board of Education, for sharing her insights on understanding the role of Black identity and resilience in the face of Anti-black racism. We also extend our gratitude to our case study facilitators:
🔹 Dee Adekugbe, Founder and Executive Director of Ruth’s House Society
🔹 Jennifer Duncan, Founder and Director of Diversity Performing Arts Club of Calgary
We are truly grateful for the empowering and inspiring conversations with our community members about the power of advocacy in preserving Black identity and overcoming institutional barriers in educational leadership.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and working towards a future where every voice is heard, valued, and uplifted.
