Volunteer Your Time

Our volunteers are important to us. Through their valuable time, talent and skills, volunteers help us fulfill our mandate. At the same time, many volunteers also find meaning for themselves in learning new skills, giving back, and building connections in their community.

By volunteering at Action Dignity, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn new skills and discover new abilities
  • Use your professional skills to support the mission of Action Dignity
  • Meet other people who share your interests and passions
  • Meaningfully contribute to the community through collaboration with ethno-cultural groups and other partners
  • Advance your career or gain experience and qualifications for future employment and academic programs
  • Broaden your network and establish contacts in your field of interest
  • Have fun!
  • Expand your taste as you enjoy ethnically diverse food!

Ways to Volunteer

There are several ways you can help as a volunteer, depending on your interests and the skills you would like to build or share.

  • Administrative Volunteers – this is for volunteers who enjoy task-oriented responsibilities. Sample roles: Admin Assistant, Receptionist, Finance Volunteer.
  • Special Events – this is for our special events that occur throughout the year where we seek volunteers to help with planning, implementation, evaluation, set up, registration and other tasks. Events include United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March), Community Forum after the Annual General Meeting (June), Volunteer Appreciation (December), workshops/trainings/roundtables throughout the year. Check the Event Calendar here.
  • Board Committee Volunteers – this is for community members with varied backgrounds who seek advisory capacity as a volunteer in any of the following board committees (For detailed descriptions of the Board Committee Volunteer Positions, please check here):
    • Finance – monitors organization’s performance against budget, oversees fund development and audit activities.
    • Governance – oversees governance and membership of the Board, responsible for recommending procedures to expedite the Board’s function, including changes to Board structure, bylaws and policies.
    • Human Resources – supports the Board in its role of leadership and supervision of the Executive Director.  For now, membership to this committee is limited to Board of Directors.
    • Public Policy and Social Justice – builds the capacity of ActionDignity and relevant community members for informed policy input on issues affecting ethnocultural communities, participate and disseminate collaborative research on relevant issues and support ActionDignity’s policy influencing and advocacy efforts through stakeholder engagements and government relations activities.
    • Innovations and Collaborative Action – provides strategic direction for sustained, meaningful, and purposeful engagement of ActionDignity members, racialized communities, and the community at large, which will help to encourage increased participation in collective action on issues that impact racialized communities.
