Volunteer Spotlight
“I arrived in Canada as a permanent resident in mid-2023. I discovered ActionDignity during a health awareness event and, as a healthcare professional, I was deeply impressed and motivated by their campaigns related to mental health issues. I began volunteering with ActionDignity because I am passionate about social justice, empowering marginalized communities, and raising mental health awareness.
I firmly believe in the organization’s mission to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity in our society. Through my volunteer work, I have had the opportunity to work closely with individuals and groups who have been historically marginalized and discriminated against. This experience has been both eye-opening and humbling, as I have learned a great deal about the challenges and struggles that racialized communities face on a daily basis.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my volunteer work with ActionDignity has been the relationships I have built with the people I have worked with. I have been inspired by their resilience, strength, and determination to create positive change in their communities. Additionally, I have gained a deeper understanding of the systemic barriers that exist and the critical importance of advocating for social justice, inclusion, and equality for all.
In the words of the legendary Muhammad Ali, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” This quote resonates deeply with me and encapsulates the essence of my commitment to volunteering”.
