Community Members Gather to Explore Anti-Racism Systems Change and Build Collective Action

More than 100 community members, grassroots leaders, and partners came together on July 04 for an inspiring day of learning, dialogue, and action at ActionDignity’s Seeds of Change project Anti-Racism Systems Change Training.

Facilitated by ActionDignity’s Anti-Racism Training and Education Coordinator, Dr. Towani Duchscher, the session introduced participants to the systems change model and explored how the systems that shape our society influence our everyday lives. Through practical examples and interactive discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the interconnected factors that contribute to social challenges and the opportunities for creating meaningful, lasting change.

One of the most impactful moments of the training was the action planning session, where participants worked together to identify community-led initiatives in areas such as education, health care, public safety, and social inclusion that could advance systems change in their own communities. The room was filled with thoughtful ideas, meaningful conversations, and a shared commitment to building more equitable and inclusive systems.

Reflecting on the collective energy in the room, Dr. Duchscher reminded participants that, “Every one of you is a seed of change.” The message resonated strongly throughout the day, reinforcing the idea that lasting systems change begins with individuals and communities working together toward a common vision.

“We were inspired by the creativity, passion, and leadership demonstrated by everyone who participated,” said the ActionDignity Seeds of Change project team. “Events like this remind us that community members are not only identifying challenges—they are also developing innovative solutions that can transform our systems for the better.”

ActionDignity extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the training. We also thank the City of Calgary for its generous support in making this learning opportunity possible.
