Seeds of Change Anti-Racism Training -Module 4: Name It to Tame It

In May, our Seeds of Change Anti-Racism Training participants explored Module 4: Name It to Tame It, deepening their understanding of how racism can present as hierarchies and disguise itself as phobias.

Through meaningful dialogue and reflection, participants engaged with the 3 Rs of Decolonial Practice (Disrupting hierarchies, Remembering our Value and Reclaiming our Power) while examining how our assumptions, biases, and systems influence the way we relate to ourselves and others.

This module invited participants to:

  • Identify and name the tools that perpetuate racism.
  • Reflect on how racial hierarchies are built into what is considered “professional” or “intelligent”.
  • Reflect on why/how Homophobia, Transphobia, Islamophobia and Fatphobia are often colonial imports that intersect with racism.
  • Participate in an embodied learning activity that encourages deeper connection and a process of remembering and reclaiming the power that comes from connections to our ancestors and community.

Grounded in Safety. Dignity. Belonging, Module 4 challenged participants to move from awareness to action. Together, we recognized the ways that we can disrupt hierarchies and remember and reclaim our own decolonial power.  Collectively, we envisioned what is possible when all people are valued and supported to thrive.

Transformational change begins when we can name what is happening, understand its impact, and take action to create something different.
