Bridging Legal Gaps Through Community Natural Supports Training

On March 28, ActionDignity hosted the Bridge Legal Gaps Natural Supports Training on “Legal Literacy for Everyday Life and Work in Canada: Understanding Rights, Systems, and Supports.”

30 participants from over 15 member organizations joined us to enhance their skills as Natural Supports. The Natural Supports are trusted community members who help others understand their rights, navigate legal challenges, and connect with resources.

This training is part of ActionDignity’s Bridging Legal Gaps (BLG) Project, which addresses systemic barriers such as foreign credential recognition and “Canadian experience” requirements.

The session concluded with action planning, where participants identified ways to support their communities and advance advocacy efforts.

A special thank you to Leesha Kanbour from the Alberta Human Rights Commission for facilitating the session on Human Rights in the Workplace, and to PBSC UCalgary volunteers Olivia Scornaienchi and Noel Akintilo for co-creating the training content.

Next steps: The trained Natural Supports will bring this knowledge back to their communities from April to September 2026.
