At ActionDignity, our volunteers are at the heart of building stronger, more inclusive communities. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Bushra Zaidi, whose passion for supporting others has made a meaningful impact in our work.
Bushra’s journey began when she moved to Canada with hopes of rebuilding her confidence while continuing her lifelong passion for community service. Introduced to ActionDignity through community connections, she immediately felt aligned with our mission and values: “As soon as I learned about the organization, I knew this was where I wanted to contribute my time and energy,” she shared.
Since joining us several months ago, Bushra has taken on roles in event coordination, community discussions, and outreach activities. One of her most memorable moments was helping at a newcomer engagement session, where she supported participants in sharing their stories. “It was heartwarming to see how just a few kind words and active listening could create such a positive atmosphere.”
What Bushra enjoys most about volunteering is the sense of belonging and growth she experiences: “The team is incredibly supportive, and the respect and warmth I receive makes me feel valued and seen. It truly feels like a second home.” Volunteering has also helped her grow more confident in navigating a new cultural environment.
Beyond ActionDignity, Bushra has shared her time and talents with CIWA, Light of Guidance Foundation, Mustard Seed, Maskan, and the Centre for Newcomers—always seeking ways to uplift others. She believes that she has made a small but meaningful impact by offering a compassionate presence and consistent support: “Many individuals I’ve interacted with at ActionDignity have shared how much they appreciated being heard and understood. Even the smallest gestures can create a ripple effect of trust and hope.”
Looking ahead, Bushra is excited to contribute to ActionDignity’s Social Inclusion & Economic Empowerment Project (SIEEP) over the next three months, gaining new experiences and finding even more meaningful ways to give back. Her hope for ActionDignity is to see it continue empowering communities and creating more opportunities for mentorship and intergenerational learning for volunteers.
Thank you, Bushra, for your dedication, compassion, and leadership. We are honoured to have you as part of the ActionDignity family.
