On September 24, over 100 community members, policymakers, community partners, and advocates came together for ActionDignity’s Labour Day Celebration—an evening of connection, learning, dialogue, and action.
Together, we watched Beyond the Resume — a powerful documentary highlighting the experiences of internationally trained professionals and the barriers they face in accessing meaningful employment.
We explored Services, Supports & Pathways through sharings from our speakers, Vanessa Listana from Directions for Immigrants, Lucy Reyes from the Philippine Canadian Nurses Association, MLA Lizette Tejada of Calgary-Klein, and MLA Irfan Sabir of Calgary-Bhullar-McCall.
We also celebrated the strength of community-led action. Our Bridging Legal Gaps project partners—Hope for Newcomers, United Filipino Entrepreneurs Association of Alberta, CRESS Centre, Health and Social Research Society, and Calgary Black Seniors Foundation – shared initiatives that are helping communities navigate barriers and create pathways to greater inclusion.
A special highlight was the launch of the Workers’ Engagement and Knowledge Hub and Workers’ Resource Kit, creating new tools and pathways to help workers access information, resources, and support.
More than anything, the evening was a reminder that every worker deserves dignity, opportunity, and a fair chance to thrive.
