Volunteer Engagement: Pathways to Purpose — Strategic Volunteering for Community Impact

On June 20, 2026, ActionDignity hosted Pathways to Purpose: Strategic Volunteering for Community Impact, an interactive volunteer engagement and capacity-building event. The event brought together volunteers, newcomers, youth, and community members for meaningful discussions, networking, and skill-sharing activities focused on strategic volunteering and civic engagement.

We were inspired by the energy, insights, and commitment shared by everyone who attended. The conversations reinforced the important role volunteers play in strengthening our communities while also creating opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Another topic of the event was gathering insights on newcomer volunteer lived experiences, including barriers to employment, lack of recognition of international credentials, and requirements of “Canadian experience” from employers. Participants reflected on how volunteering is often used as a pathway to build local networks, gain experience, and increase opportunities for employment, leadership, and long-term community integration.
