On March 21, 2018, ActionDignity celebrated United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with the theme “Bridging Legacies: Intergenerational Conversations on Elimination of Racial Discrimination”. The youth-led event was attended by over 100 guests, including youth, community members, volunteers, funders, partners and government representatives. The event was held at the Polish Canadian Cultural Centre.
A youth performance with cultural expressions on the issue of diversity, racial discrimination, belonging, unity and community action was one of the program highlights. The event also saw the formal launch of Youth PLACE (Platform for Learning, Action & Community Engagement), a newly funded national, three-year collaborative project that engages racialized youth to inform, create, incubate and implement approaches to address the systemic and day-to-day barriers that they face especially around discrimination, racism and prejudice. Youth PLACE is funded by Canadian Heritage.
