Updated as of December 2025

This website, https://actiondignity.org, is owned and managed by Action Dignity Society (ActionDignity). In this policy, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to ActionDignity and the terms “you” or “your” refer to any individual user of our site.

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information we collect. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through actiondignity.org, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, your rights, and how to contact us.

Scope & Applicable Laws

This Policy applies to personal information collected from visitors to our website and to people who provide their contact details to ActionDignity. Where applicable, our practices are guided by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). We also follow Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for electronic communications.

Data Collection, Use and Disclosure

We only collect the personal information we need to provide our services and communications. The personal information we collect is:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address

We collect this information when you voluntarily provide it (e.g., sign up for our newsletter, contact us, register for an event, or otherwise opt in).

We collect and use your first name, last name, and email address for specific, limited and legitimate purposes, including:

  • Sending newsletters, updates, event invitations, and other information you opt into.
  • Responding to enquiries and providing requested services or information.
  • Administration (e.g., record-keeping, internal reporting).

We will not use your information for purposes incompatible with the purpose for which it was collected without obtaining further consent, unless otherwise permitted or required by law. These approaches reflect the fair information principles required under Canadian privacy law.

Legal Basis and Consent

Your consent is the primary legal basis for our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information. By providing your name and email, you are consenting to the uses described in this Policy. You can withdraw consent at any time (see “Your choices and rights” below).

Email Communications & CASL (Unsubscribe / Proof of Consent)

If you opt in to receive email communications, we will:

  • Obtain and retain clear proof of your consent (e.g., form submission record).
  • Include a straightforward unsubscribe link or instructions in every marketing email so you can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Provide accurate sender identification in every message.

If you unsubscribe or otherwise withdraw consent, we will stop sending those communications except where we are legally permitted to retain or send certain communication messages.

Sharing, Third Parties & Service Providers

We may share your information with trusted third-party service providers who perform services for us (for example, email delivery platforms, event registration providers, or data hosting). Where we share data, we:

  • Limit the information to what is necessary for the provider to perform their service.
  • Require the provider to maintain appropriate privacy and security measures.
  • Remain responsible for the protection of the information while it is in our custody or control.

We will not sell, rent, or lease your personal information.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy (for example, while you remain subscribed to our communications or as required to meet legal or operational obligations). When no longer required, we will securely destroy or de-identify the information.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards reasonably appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to protect against unauthorized access, disclosure, use, or modification. If a privacy breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will respond in accordance with applicable law and notify affected individuals where required.

If at any time you are required to create a username and password to access any services, you are not allowed to share your password, and it is your responsibility to protect your username and password from theft or any other means of unauthorized use that would violate these Terms. If you become aware that your password has been compromised or your account has been breached, it is your responsibility to notify us immediately by sending an email to info@actiondignity.org.

Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and request a copy.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Withdraw consent to receive marketing communications (unsubscribe) at any time.
  • Request that we delete your personal information where deletion is permitted by law.
