Ethnocultural Grassroots Advocacy Group

The Ethnocultural Grassroots Advocacy Group Held its October Meeting

On October 01, the Ethnocultural Grassroots Advocacy Group (EGAG) convened to advance its ongoing advocacy work on foreign credential recognition and removal of the unnecessary Canadian work experience requirement in hiring practices.

The session provided an opportunity for members to strengthen their capacity for advocacy, share lived experiences, identify systemic barriers, and explore evidence-informed approaches to policy engagement.

Led by the four committees—Policy and Systems Change, Research, Evidence & Knowledge, Communications, Media & Public Awareness, and Community Mobilization & Partnership, the team has identified three key pillars to advance the policy advocacy campaign:

  • Advancing Legislative Change: Advocating for legislative amendments to remove unnecessary Canadian experience requirements in Alberta.
  • Strengthening Regulatory Accountability: Working with Fairness for Newcomers (FNO) to promote greater accountability and fairness in regulatory processes.
  • Engaging Regulatory Bodies: Preparing to engage five regulatory bodies in 2027 to advance more equitable pathways for internationally trained professionals.

Through research, community engagement, strategic relationship-building, and public awareness efforts, EGAG continues to bring newcomer and internationally trained professional experiences to the forefront while building partnerships with civic and economic leaders to support lasting systems change.
